Rubio Opposes Independent Investigation into Benghazi Consulate Attack

by Javier Manjarres

Senator Marco Rubio was the headliner at a rally for Israel held at a South Florida Jewish Community School this past weekend, where he reiterated his support for America’s closest ally in the Middle East and took a few questions from the media as he exited the event.

Rubio expressed his deep concerns about the lack of security measures that the U.S. government was responsible for at its consulate in Benghazi, Libya which led to the murder of four Americans.

My number one concern about the Benghazi situation is that knowing it was a very dangerous place that was growing even more dangerous, the United States did not supply sufficient security for that consulate in Benghazi, and as a result, four brave Americans lost their lives.  We need to make sure how that happened, so that it never happens again. -Senator Marco Rubio

When asked whether an independent investigation was warranted to get to the bottom of what really happened both in the run up to the attack on the consulate and its aftermath, Rubio asserted that an independent investigation was not necessary.

Rubio, who sits on the Select Committee on Intelligence and is privy to intelligence briefings stated that Congress was more than capable of conducting an investigation into the matter.

I don’t think it has to be independent (investigation) the bottom line is that, the Congress is fully capable, I am on the intelligence committee, I am on the Foreign Relations committee in the Senate, I think that those committees are fully capable of investigating why there was not sufficient security provided to the personnel in Benghazi, and how that could’ve been prevented. - Senator Marco Rubio

“… I think that those committees are fully capable of investigating why there was not sufficient security provided to the personnel in Benghazi, and how that could’ve been prevented. – Senator Marco Rubio”

It could have been prevented by NOT enlisting shady Muz-Bro affiliated jihadists in your illegal gun-running operation into Syria via Turkey.

THIS is not Obama’s Iranian hostage situation, it’s his Iran-Contra illegal gun-running operation. Only O is no Reagan and he’s in it up to his eyeballs.

Now impeach his boney marxist treasonous a$$.

    • Nancy Celano November 28, 2012 at 7:59 am

I firmly agree that impeachment proceedings shouls be started against Obama. He is, utimately, the cause of the murders in Libya. All important orders have to come from him, and, his were no further help and to “stand down.”

    • White.H. Web of Deception? November 28, 2012 at 8:30 am

BoGo — You suspect a Fast and Furious kind of operation. So do I. Now let’s get an independent council to investigate this mess to see if there was actual gun running. Maybe the truth will expose the amateur in the White House. Was Chris Stevens allowed to die because he was part of a failed operation and knew too much?

Why was General Ham muzzled? What about the thirty people who were rescued? Why haven’t they been interviewed? Instead the U.N. surrogate, Susan Rice, spouted Obama’s words of deceit and made a fool of herself.

      • BoGo November 28, 2012 at 9:25 am

All very good questions. But according to Jay “carnival barker” Carney, there are no unanswered questions regarding Benghazi.

    • 4grands November 28, 2012 at 9:32 pm

Could you say that again and again and again until someone with an ounce of decency hears it and does something about it? The people whom really killed those four individuals, as well as many others, are the residing powers that be in the white house. I am sure that the person that calls the shots is Valerie Jerratt – bummer doesn’t have the nerve to tackle issues like that. Bummber is all about having hit men and women – he only knows how to campaign. They say he is smart, but he is only a smart alec whom hasn’t an ounce of character.

    • TT IS A HATER November 28, 2012 at 11:02 pm

EXACTLY GUN RUNNING AND THE GUNS USED TO KILL EVERYONE AND THAT WAS THE PLANS TO COVER OBAMA ASS..HE PURPOSELY LEFT THEM WITH NO SECURITY SO THEY WOULD BE KILLED AND NO ONE TO THE RESCUE UNTIL THEY KNEW FOR SURE WITNESSES WERE MURDERED!!! SO FIRST FAST AND FURIOUS AND NOW THIS HOW MANY HAVE TO DIE BEFORE LIBERALS CARE?? OHYEAH THEY ARE AMERICANS THEY DON’T GIVE A FU$% ABOUT AMERICANS THEY HATE THEM!!

    • S.M. Fentz November 29, 2012 at 4:19 pm

Even if we could get the spineless Boehner to convince enough House members to vote for impeachment, Harry Reid would just refuse to do it.

It’s been quite awhile since anyone has been impeached, but I remember it is the House who first initiates impeachment. It is then sent to the Senate. The hearing or “trial” takes place in the Senate.
We really would need control over the Senate as well as the House to make impeachment possible. There is the possibility that Harry Reid won’t be re-elected in 2014. (Wouldn’t that be great?)

Benghazi cannot be forgotten. I am glad that so far, it keeps coming up.
Obama had done several things that I consider to be impeachable offenses. Benghazi definitely is the worst though.

    • crooked wren January 27, 2013 at 12:10 pm

      Short & to the point.

      Too many questions left unanswered:

Where are the survivors? Why are they under a gag order? Who gave the gag order? Why is it legal? Why can’t Congress and the Press (including FNC as well as our current TASS/Pravda group) have access to them?

Why did we neglect Stevens’ cry for security? Too many emails to read, Hillary? Don’t you have a staff that’s PAID BIG BUCKS to sift out the detritus but MAKE SURE YOU SEE THE IMPORTANT ONES? Did they consider Stevens unimportant? Expendable?

Why were the staff unprepared & unarmed? Why didn’t they have their weapons on them?

Why did we — in the months before — send the group home that was there for security?

Why did we have a presence there? Everyone else had pulled out.

WHY DID CLINTON & OBAMA BLAME THE YOUTUBE VIDEO, IMPRISON THE VIDEO CREATOR, THEN LIE ABOUT BLAMING THE VIDEO?

We have testimony from State that there was real-time video. We have conflicting testimony from Hillary that there was no such thing. Which is it? Who is lying? Why? These people are under oath, are they not? Aren’t there consequences for lying under oath to Congress — or does that just apply to Republicans?

Who gave the order to Stand Down? (There is a group ready to go in case of terror actions over there. They weren’t deployed. Why not?)

What about the two generals relieved of duty? Why? (Hamm is one of those relieved of duty.)

Who gave the orders to deploy those who were detained at the airport?

When will the man imprisoned for the video be released?

These are just a few of the questions left unanswered.

      Impeach.

  2. SovereignMary November 27, 2012 at 9:46 am

Marco Rubio is just another good ol’ boy Establishment Party Machine Troll! He’s an example of why both sides of the aisle need to have the Progressives cleared out of office.

    • Marco is the Choice November 28, 2012 at 8:19 am

Soverign Mary levels a nasty charge and provides no evidence for her claim. Wake up Mary! For better or worse, the choices have already been decided by the voters! Excoriating the folks we have placed in office is a low blow. What are your reasona?

P.S.: I think Obama is in way over his head. Just look at his inept decisions! But he buys votes better than honest policians. Sad but true.

      • way2confused November 28, 2012 at 10:12 am

Sorry, but Obama is not in over his head. He know precisely what he is doing. EVERYTHING he does is aimed at taking down the country. These next four years will assure he succeeds unless congress somehow manages to get a backbone–which is doubtful. Personally, I think both sides of the aisle (with a very few exceptions) are complicit.

    • yshaw1 December 14, 2012 at 1:48 pm

No, Rubio has the scoop due to the fact that he is on the intelligence committee and is privy to the inside evidence.

The urgent request for back up was refused = that is the person who should be taken to task. It may be pretty cut and dried.

I’m sure they know where to place the blame.

Rubio is a good and honest man, sometimes you just need to have faith in a good person’s judgement.

  3. PJSolarz November 27, 2012 at 12:15 pm

Rubio for some reason is disillusioned thinking that congress can get the job done. What do the American people think of this? Congress has an 8% approval rating. If any of these idiots had a clue, they’d get the hell out of the way and let an independant “get the job done”

    • Nancy Celano November 28, 2012 at 7:55 am

Obama would probably choose the “independent” investigator, meaning he or she would be in his corner. We have to start trusting Congress sometime, and with Rubio on those committees, I trust him.

  4. Jacqueline November 28, 2012 at 7:18 am

Sadly, perhaps tragically, American’s have lost faith in our Congress getting anything worth while done! And most of us have NO faith in this Executive regime!
Partly that is the electorates fault for voting in a deeply divided Legislative Branch. Partly it is the fault of established politicians who act in their own best interests rather than that of America!
Fast and Furious seems to fading from America’s collective memory. Now, thanks to the mjority of the media we also have no faith in, BLOODY BENGHAZI is being chipped away.
This Administration with its’ well placed puppets in key sites have stonewalled every investigation and action that should have removed them from power.
A cadre of well trained thugs have out smarted and out manuvered an entire elected government!

  5. S. Klein November 28, 2012 at 7:37 am

Sadly, like John McCain and others, Senator Rubio supported Obama’s illegitimate war in Libya. Why a Republican would support Obama’s dangerous foreign policy in Egypt, Libya and other places in the region is beyond me.

    • CalFl November 28, 2012 at 2:07 pm

Exactly right and yes, it is sad. Republicans still haven’t learned and probably won’t. They might as well fold up their tent and move in with the Democrats. Republocrat or Demican. What’s the difference?

BTW, you were likely put on “moderation” for pointing out that the Libyan invasion was illegitimate (besides being unconstitutional). Rubio supporting that invasion and even hinting at the idea that there is nary a scintilla of difference between NeoCons and Democrats on foreign policy is a major “infraction” with a big wing of the Republican party.

  6. kerijay November 28, 2012 at 7:46 am

Maybe Rubio should ask West to be his mentor. The Republicans turn their head to all dirt and it will go away just like Susan Rice,Obama and anything the democrats do. Time for a new party that have the guts to fight against the Democrat fraud. The election was stolen in Fl, PA, OH and others just like in 2008 and they got away with it again.

Democrats and Liberals are so brain washed they are to lazy to do their own research just listen to the Soros Obama lame stream media. They ran with West’s comment about the communist and West was exactly right the information has been out there for years the democrat party has become the CPUSA.

  7. Bill Ewing November 28, 2012 at 7:50 am

    I’m with Rubio in this.

Why throw more money at a process that is little more than eyewash for the masses and really accomplishes nothing other than giving cover for what the administration is doing behind the scenes?

Want to look into something? Why not try looking behind the curtain that is the Executive Department.

  8. S. Klein November 28, 2012 at 7:59 am

Just curious. Why am I on moderation? What was my infraction?

  9. Nobody’s Fool November 28, 2012 at 8:58 am

Rubio looks like a soft baby to me, and now he has shown that’s he soft on the inside too. I hope the fools that are promoting him for 2016 will get over their affair with the Magic Cuban…and that is not a racist remark. It is just that the PTB think nominating someone with his credentials would guarantee flocks of hispanic voters coming to the republican side. When he can stand up and say the things that Bill Wittle said in his speech recently, then he will make a strong candidate. Until he can stand up and speak the truth, though, he is like all other republican candidates–toast. I am not happy to be saying this, I want us to win and try to repair the damage done so far. But it will never happen with wimps like Boehner and Rubio, among others, in Congress. Grow a spine!!!!

  10. Painful Truth November 28, 2012 at 9:22 am

Senator Rubio is up to speed on these issues but has some other agendas than doing what is best for the country.

Rubio should be demanding and chairing high profile investigations into Benghazi.

Pres. Obama is running out the clock because he knows this story will quickly become old news as long as no information comes and Republicans like Rubio don’t press the issue.

Susan Rice has become a diversion away from the real issue – Stevens was trying to retrieve U.S. weapons given to Ansar Al-Sharia & Al-qaeda to overthrow Gadaffi. This is fast and furious 2 and whoever gave the order to “Stand Down” is the issue to focus on.

Republicans are being played again and again. It’s like Linus and the Football.

Shark Tank does a good job keeping politicians honest.

  11. way2confused November 28, 2012 at 10:06 am

And what will the result of any investigation do? Will it recommend impeaching Obama? It should, but it won’t. Does anyone remotely think Reid would allow that vote to come to the floor?

What this means is we are stuck with a president who couldn’t care less about the welfare of the country or it’s citizens. He is intent on collapsing the economy as quickly as possible. Unless we elect Conservative Senators and maintain control of the House in 2014, there will be no stopping Obama and his radical cohorts from taking over–permanently.

If any Republican president did what Obama has done in the last 4 years, that person would be not only impeached, but in prison–and rightfully so. And the last 4 years Obama was on a tether because he wanted another 4 years. Now it is going to be Katie bar the door. there will be no stopping him and his unconstitutional power grabs as there is NO ONE in Washington with the guts to stop him.

  12. Prof Nac November 28, 2012 at 12:01 pm

At one time, I thought Rubio could be the future face of conservatism, but I’m rapidly losing interest in him. This is a stupid comment from him because it’s clear that Congress is incapable of accomplishing anything. These people have become the “nobility” class of our country, which our founders would oppose with a second revolution as the did in 1776.

  13. Stan Lee November 28, 2012 at 12:40 pm

OK, let’s get it going, Marco! Times a’ wasting! You say an independent investigation is unnecessary, I believe you.
However, at the speed we’re going now, which is worse than a crawl, this issue is getting older by the minute.
Obama was able to successfully “sand-bag” this past the election, and if he and his crew have their way they’ll continue to obfuscate the issue with more distractions.
Your investigation must get out of the preparatory stage and start in earnest…pronto!

  14. Redacted November 28, 2012 at 1:51 pm

I’m agreeing with Prof Nac and way2confused. Congress has already proven themselves to be impotent against Fast & Furious, the DOJ, Holder, Obama, and scandals too numerous to mention. I see NO evidence that the Benghazi situation is being handled seriously, and it already is being blocked from investigation in the Senate by freedom’s enemy Harry Reid.

Rubio looks weak and is not being honest with us…surprise! Marco is not the hero we’re looking for.

For more background on the Benghazi “Consulate” that wasn’t a consulate, check this out:

Benghazi explained: Interview with an “Intelligence Insider”
    http://www.canadafreepress.com/index.php/article/51346

It’s shameful that we have to get this sort of information from foreign press.

  15. Lightweight November 28, 2012 at 2:34 pm

Rubio has no soul. The reason he does not want this investigated is because he supports Obama;s overthrow the leaders and establish Iran’s Muslim Brotherhood united against Israel. He lobbied republicans to join the effort to remove Kadaffi from office. No one has yet to prove the case that Kadaffi was oppressive to his people like Iranian and Iragi leaders.Kadaffi was an evil man who endorsed and funded terrorism, but he was not a terrorist leader.Maroc Rubio needs to support an investigation.

  16. Carlos November 28, 2012 at 10:14 pm

Much as I like Marco, he sounds like a DC insider already. Sorry, Marquito, but I call ‘em like I see ‘em. If the GOP Senators had any wayvos, they’d be grilling these Obama cabinet traitors and not be afraid of racism excuses to prolong the coverup. That’s why we don’t trust or believe them, they have no record of achievement to merit credibility. When the left was calling Condi Rice Aunt Jemima I don’t think they were too worried about bashing a black woman. Why are these investigations in private??!! We, the people deserve to know who, what, when, why, etc.

  17. Charles W Jojner November 28, 2012 at 10:31 pm

  18. Hank Nizko November 29, 2012 at 1:09 am

Before he was elected, Rubio was a Conservative. Once elected he came up with the Dream Act, which is nothing more than amnesty. He does does not understrand the illegal alien promblem that plagues this country. Rubio is a RINO and should be excized from the party.

  19. Hank Nizko November 29, 2012 at 1:24 am

The illegal alien problem is about 30 million on Social Security (SSI payments) who never worked here, Medicare for people who never worked here, Medicade for non-Americans, food stamps for anyone on the dole, free schooling, free HUD housing, etc.

Pass amnesty, and you will have another 50 million Mexicans here next month. How do the Americans plan on paying for this?

I want you Democrats, Progressive, and Communists to answer this quetion.

    • Chopper November 29, 2012 at 10:22 am

How much money did you make last year?

      Send it in!

  20. Chopper November 29, 2012 at 10:20 am

Senator Rubio needs to step back and examine the major accomplishments of the branch of government in which he serves since his election. If he needs help, here are 5 starters: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Oh, that’s right, they have done nothing major in the past two years in spite of their exorbitant salaries. With the looming fiscal cliff, Benghazi, Fast & Furious and a President who is making the legislative bodies irrelevant through the use of Executive Orders, their first order of business upon returning from the latest of their many vacations was to take on the daunting task of figuring out what to do with some polar bear carcasses hunters wanted to bring into the U.S.
I have no doubt that the Senate has the ability to conduct an investigation of the Benghazi incident as Senator Rubio says. The question is, do they have the will. Senator Reid runs the Senate and all Committee heads are Democrats and they will block any action that may adversely impact the President. Also, Reid and his cohorts will block any attempt to appoint a Special Counsel for Benghazi. Therefore, there will be no meaningful investigation of the Benghazi and the incident will slowly succumb to other newer stories as is Fast & Furious.
