A vile of the deadly Guanarito virus has been misplaced or lost at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. The virus, which is described as being similar to the Ebola virus, originates in a particular rat indigenous to Venezuela, but is said to not be transferrable to U.S. rats or from one person to another. While officials are saying that there wasn’t a “breach in security” at the laboratory, the thought of a virus like this getting into the hands of the wrong people, has the U.S. government scrambling for answers.
Univision reports that the virus can be used as a “massively destructive” weapon.
