Obama Administration Aggressively Pushing Same-Sex Marriage Benefits

By JAVIER MANJARRES

We are only a month removed from the Supreme Court decision to strike down Section 3 of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), and President Obama’s Office of Personnel Management is already pushing federal benefits for federal employees who have been legally married to their same-sex wife or husband.

In addition, OPA is also extending these benefits to “annuitants” or retired federal employees.

What this means is, if you are retired from your federal job and  legally marry someone of the same-sex, you are now eligible to receive federal benefits.

On June 26, 2013, the Supreme Court ruled that Section 3 of the Defense of Marriage Act  (DOMA) is unconstitutional. As a result of the Supreme Court’s decision, the United States Office of Personnel Management (OPM) will now be able to extend certain benefits to Federal employees and annuitants who have legally married a spouse of the same sex, regardless of the employee’s or annuitant’s state of residency. OPM is currently in the process of updating and revising the website to reflect this change, and will be updating this information as soon as possible. Please check back in the coming weeks for updates.-OPM Website

I agree with giving actually marriaged gay couples federal benifits if they actually live together and have been together longer than a year.

    Luis is gay.

I believe legitimizing the homosexual lifestyle is ludicrous. It is a self destructive behavior. It is not natural and the proof is seen in the need of their proponents to come up with fraudulent, supposed scientific, studies to support their position.
Whatever adults want to do in the privacy of their homes is their business. I am certain that heterosexuals also engage in abhorent behaviors and we do not nor should not legitimize that either.
But to push this radical agenda, to the detriment of the future of our country, is unexcusable and unpardonable.
It is high time “for All Good Men to Come to the Aid of their Country.”

Denny is an ignorant individual who cannot see beyond his own nose to realize that human beings, especially those who are positively contributing to this nations educational and economic prosperity and future, should be acknowledged and respected, regardless of their sexual preference.
Tom, while I respect every opinion, how could legalizing Same-sex marriage possibly lead “to the detriment of the future of our country…” as you stated? I am a conservative, and truly cannot fathom the union of two individuals regardless of their sex, causing this countries demise, perhaps it may be those individuals in politics who are stealing from the poor to give to the rich, or to keep for themselves, as we have dozens of those in every CITY, COUNTY, STATE in this country, especially right here in Florida.

Don’t civil unions & domestic partnerships do the same thing?

Oh wait, of course! This isn’t about getting benefits. The LGBTs want to REDEFINE marriage.
