Democrats Senator Edward Markey and Representative John Tierney, who both hail from the liberal bastion of Massachusetts, have proposed ‘smart gun’ control bills in their respective legislative bodies, “aimed” at curbing gun violence in the United States.
The measures would require all new guns to be fitted with “fingerprint-reading technology” that would only allow the owner of that gun, or other “authorized users” to be able to fire it.Markey believes the bill will keep children from accidentally discharging a gun, and make it harder for illicitly obtained (stolen) guns to be used in crimes.
“This is the type of gun safety legislation that everyone – regardless of political party or affiliation – should be able to support.” -Senator Markey (D) (Fox News)
Do you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)
Gun manufacturers have already been producing weapons with several safety measures, including fingerprint-reading, to help reduce accidental discharges, and guns falling into the wrong hands.
This Democrat-driven gun safety proposal seems palatable, until Markey called on President Obama to attach a $10 million gun violence research pork barrel earmark to his budget.“This vital legislation, which I introduced in the House last year, harnesses the benefits of existing technology to make guns themselves safer. Personalization technology would reduce accidental gun deaths and prevent stolen weapons from being used in crimes,” Tierney said in a statement.-Rep.John Tierney (D)
While all of these gun safety measures are welcomed in the gun community, like many gun rights and small government supporters, the National Rifle Association (NRA) opposes any and all “government mandates that require the use of grips with fingerprint-reading technology.”
But if this legislation does pass in both the Senate and the House, does it open the door for other anti-gun legislation, or possibly an executive order being issued to “deal with” existing non-smart guns already in circulation?
What would happen to the millions of firearms already in use?
