Republican congressional candidate Curt Clawson seems to have hit a bump in the road with a recent FOX 4 investigation, which discovered that Clawson has a tie to a convicted sex offender, and may have possibly “falsified” his financial disclosures.
Clawson’s opponents in the race, Paige Kreegel, Lizbeth Benacquisto and Michael Dreikorn, have teamed up to call a press conference prior to their last debate on Wednesday, demanding Clawson come clean on these allegations. The three releases a joint press release accusing Clawson of “falsifying his financial disclosure.”
“Now more than ever, we stand together to put politics aside to address some very serious questions that have been raised in this race. As candidates for the United States Congress – but more importantly as parents and members of this community – there is no greater priority than protecting our children from the violent predators who target them. Recent news reports have brought into question Curt Clawson’s relationship with a violent child rapist in Utah. He has dismissed these news reports as politically driven, and that just couldn’t be further from the truth.”
Do you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)
Apparently, Clawson knew sex offender Glen Borst at an early age, but lost touch with him until 2006, where he agreed to purchase a rental property in Utah, naming Borst’s ex- wife Annie as the realtor, when the reconnected.
Mr. Borst had the power of attorney in order to handle the transaction because Mr. Clawson lives out of state. They rented the house for Curt and took care of the house as an investment property. Prior to the house being sold, Mr. Borst and two other people occupied the property as caretaker tenants.
It also seems as if Clawson was not aware of Borst’s problems until the FOX 4 investigation into his connections with the sex offender started.
Clawson’s campaign put out this statement addressing the allegations:
“How low will my opponents go? Now they are sending private investigators to investigate the lives of the victims to relive a tragic event in their lives. This is precisely why very few good people agree to run for office, and instead we end up with career politicians who will say and do anything to get elected.
“I am going to continue focusing on the issues in this race that matter such as the Economic Growth Plan and the Penny Plan. I would suggest to the other candidates and to the news media that these are the things voters want to hear about.”
Clawson also furnished this letter from the accounting firm handling his financial disclosures, which states that the Utah property in question, and that Clawson’s Rewired CEO business, which states that its legal address is that of the same property, did not have to be disclosed.Clawson’s campaign is saying that the Utah home was sold to help finance his congressional campaign.
Here is the letter:
In addition to all of this, Clawson released an audio from the mother of the girl, Annie (the realtor) who was sexually assaulted. In the audio clip, Annie excoriates all three of Clawson’s opponents as shameless political opportunists for making her and her daughter revisiti their tragic past.
The mother also said that Clawson did not know of the incident, that he was just a business partner at the time, and asked all Benacquisto, Kreegel and Dreikorn to stop making her family relive this incident.Benacquisto knows all too well about the emotional scaring a rape can have on a young girl.
During her 2010 state Senate campaign, Lizbeth Benacquisto divulged that when she was 19 years old, she was raped, and added that “it was a very difficult thing” for her to “reconcile.”
