The Charlie Crist for Governor campaign is the best when it comes to political follies. Once again, Charlie Houdini has flipped flopped on yet another issue, this time its on his support for the Florida Senate’s in-state tuition for illegal immigrants.
The bill (SB1400), which has been sponsored by Senator Jack Latvala, and has now garnered the support of Governors Jeb Bush, Bob Martinez, and Rick Scott, has now been endorsed by Crist, who also backed the bill in his own campaign statement. Here is what politifact reported about another one of Charlie Crist’s political switch-a-roos:
Charlie Crist Said Lawmakers “Did The Right Thing” When They Rejected In-State Tuition For DREAMERS. “Crist said state lawmakers “did the ‘right thing’ earlier this year when they rejected a bill allowing children of illegal immigrants to pay the same tuition rates as Florida residents … An August 2006 article in the Tampa Bay Times included a one-word ‘yes’ or ‘no’ answer from candidates for governor to several questions, including this one: ‘Should we allow the children of illegal immigrants to pay in-state tuition at our universities?’ The answer for Crist: No.” (Amy Sherman, “Charlie Crist Opposed In-State Tuition For Dreamers In 2006, Republican Party Of Florida Says,” Politifact, 4/11/14)
Do you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)
And of course, here is the expected response from Rick Scott’s campaign:
“Charlie Crist led the charge against DREAMERS when he was governor. Now, he’s attacking Governor Scott’s strong leadership to keep tuition low for all Florida students. That’s not just hypocritical, it’s embarrassing.” – Rick Scott for Florida Spokesman Greg Blair
Crist’s campaign has turned into somewhat of a circus act, as yet another one of his staffers, Spokesman Eric Conrad, has jumped ship after only 6 days on the job.
